The Happiness Garden was officially launched this week with forest school, fire-pit and story-telling top of the agenda. Whilst the grown-ups did their thing of cutting the ribbon, handing out cakes and treats, and taking photos, the children got straight into all the wonders of nature.
They contributed to the storyline as they sat round the story chair, got enchanted by the real wood fire and learnt about how the bees use pollen to keep their hives alive. Afterwards the school’s dance club put on a dance display to celebrate the wonderful opening and the future prospect of fun-time together, outside and in harmony with nature.
On his first engagement as Mayor of Wandsworth (26 May 2022) Cllr Jeremy Ambache cut the ribbon alongside one of the school’s pupils, saying he only had one word to say. And after a rundown of how the Happiness Garden will contribute to the local community he said, “that word is congratulations!”.
Launch Day in the Happiness Garden
As well as refreshments for guests and ice-cream for every child, the programme of childrens' activities highlighted all the features of the garden. Den building, fire lighting, story telling, digging and planting were all on offer.
