I’ve learned so much from researching the themes for the first three weeks of our Friday prayer meeting 9 Weeks for 9 Elms.
Reading the United Nations website for World Food Day I was struck that so many people are still hungry in 2020 round the world and by the increasing problem of obesity. From field to plate there’s a world of economics and a trail of consequences to human beings and the planet.
It was great to find out how some local organisations are tackling food poverty round Nine Elms in these days of lockdown, furlough and economic uncertainty. It was good to pray for these inspiring people and their work.
Local organisations tackling food poverty include…
The Trussell Trust who coordinate foodbanks across the country including Wandsworth Foodbank in Battersea Rise.
Waste Not Want Not Battersea who have been tirelessly distributing unwanted produce from New Covent Garden before and during the latest pandemic.
St George's School Battersea supporting children with the help of Magic Breakfast, Edenred and the Lovage Project.
